Do you have a store?
No, we are an online tea boutique. We have purposely stayed away from the traditional retail store model, in order to focus on bringing tea lovers an authentic Chinese tea experience through our tea seminars as well as our online service. In addition, we want to provide people the real high quality Chinese tea. We have no plan of starting a store in near future, but sign up to our newsletter and you will be able to try our tea at a seminar or a tea festival near you.
Why are some tea names different from what I know?
Due to the lack of authoritative translations for most tea names, it is not uncommon to find the same teas with different names. We use Pinyin, which is pronunciation based, to directly spell the tea name while still keeping some of the popular translation in the bracket to help you quickly identify the tea you are looking for. Though it seems harder, we strongly suggest using the Pinyin ones as the tea names for the two reasons:
- In translation, names are always translated based on pronunciation. For example, famous tea provinces such as Fujing Province and Yunnan Province, they are not translated as Luck Build (Fujing) Province or Cloud South (Yunnan) Province. Same as people’s name, you may have a colleague named Jun Wang, but no one would call him “Army King”.
- Language barrier. For non-Chinese speakers, the translation seems random and even funny sometimes, while for Chinese speakers, the translation is never good enough when compared to the Chinese name. Most Chinese tea names are so artistic and poetic that the abundant information contained in those several characters simply cannot be translated literally.
Do you have organic teas?
Yes. Some of our teas are organic certified and some of them are not. However, we choose not to label them differently. Please check our blog post Organic Certification? Not Now for more detailed explanation.
Why are your teas more expensive than some other tea stores?
Our teas are not actually more expensive than teas of similar grade, however it is very uncommon to find tea of this quality in the North American market. Try our tea side by side with other teas and you will see, smell and taste the difference. Chinese tea provide tea buyers with a continuum of grades from everything that goes into low quality tea bags up to tea that is so carefully processed that only 5 leaves a day can be made! We are bringing tea lovers the upper end of the tasting experience and still offering teas that are great for everyday enjoyment.
