This Osmanthus Phoenix Oolong tea really struck me as a stunning Dan Cong. If you love Dan Cong tea, you will love this tea. More interestingly, if you are NOT a fan of Fenghuang Dan Cong, I think this tea will hit you just the right way. The floral notes of this tea, while present, are subtle and complex, and there are loads of other elements complexly woven together that made every sip of this tea delightful. The opening infusions started with some malty grain elements being most obvious and the osmanthus aroma was really present when breathing out over the tea. In later infusions, the floral elements of this osmanthus Phoenix oolong tea worked their way to the front of the profile but in a respectful, classy way. As we headed into the later infusions (six and seven for us), the tea started to exhibit classic ‘return to Dan Cong’ characteristics, as good teas of this type invariably do. That meant a heavenly sweet floral was still present and every sip continued to delight.
